Private Coaching

Fielding

Defense wins close games, and it's the most coachable part of the field. Coach Myles builds clean footwork, soft hands, and the pre-pitch reads that let a player get to the ball under control and make the routine play every time.

Good defense is footwork first. Coach Myles teaches players to get to the ball under control and field through it instead of waiting on it — a clean approach, soft hands that funnel to the middle, and a quick, repeatable transfer. The routine play, made every time, is worth more than the occasional highlight.

The reads matter as much as the hands. Before every pitch a good fielder knows the situation, takes a ready first step, and already knows where the play is. From there it's accurate throwing off a balanced base — to a bag, a cut, or a relay — done the same way every time.

The work is tailored to the position and the player. Infield, outfield, and the corners each ask for different footwork and angles, and a younger player building glove confidence needs something different than an older one adding range and arm strength. Every session meets the player where they are.

The Work

What we work on

  • Footwork & approach

Getting to the ball under control and fielding through it, not waiting on it.

Soft hands, a clean funnel, and a quick exchange to the throwing hand.

  • Pre-pitch reads & positioning

Knowing the situation and the first step before the ball is hit.

  • Throwing on the move

Accurate, repeatable throws from a balanced base — infield and outfield.

  • Position-specific work

Drills tailored to where the player actually plays.

Every session is built around your player — Coach Myles travels to you across Long Beach & Orange County.

Do you coach both infield and outfield?

My player is nervous about hard ground balls — can that change?

Absolutely. Confidence comes from reps with proper technique. We start where the player is and build glove confidence step by step.

Where do fielding lessons happen?

Coach Myles travels to you across Long Beach and Orange County — a field or facility that works for your family.
