Throwing Mechanics

Every throw on the field starts with the same thing: clean, repeatable arm action. Coach Myles teaches throwing the healthy way — accuracy and velocity built on sound mechanics and arm care, so players throw harder without throwing themselves into trouble.

Throwing is a full-body movement, not an arm movement. Coach Myles works on the footwork and direction to the target, the glove side, a clean and efficient arm path, and a balanced follow-through. When the body lines up and the sequence repeats, accuracy follows — and velocity becomes a byproduct of clean mechanics and a strong, well-cared-for arm rather than something a young player muscles up for.

Arm care comes first, always. Proper warm-up routines, sensible throwing programs, and real respect for workload and rest keep young arms healthy, in line with MLB Pitch Smart guidelines for youth pitchers. Long-toss and velocity work have their place, but only once mechanics are clean and the arm is prepared for it.

These fundamentals serve every player on the field. Position players get more accurate and more durable; pitchers build on the same foundation with mound-specific work. The order of operations is the same for everyone: clean mechanics and accuracy first, then let strength and velocity come as the athlete grows.

The Work

What we work on

  • Arm path & sequence

A clean, repeatable arm action sequenced off the lower half and trunk.

  • Footwork & direction

Lining the body up to the target for accuracy and effortless carry.

  • Arm care & warm-up

Throwing programs and routines that build durability, in line with Pitch Smart guidelines.

  • Accuracy on the move

Repeating mechanics from different angles and footwork.

  • Velocity the right way

Letting velo come from clean mechanics and strength as the athlete matures.

Every session is built around your player — Coach Myles travels to you across Long Beach & Orange County.

Common Questions

Throwing Mechanics — Common Questions

Is this only for pitchers?

No. Clean throwing mechanics help every position. Pitchers get mound-specific work on top of these same fundamentals.

How do you protect young arms?

Arm care comes first — proper warm-ups, sensible workloads, and rest, following MLB Pitch Smart guidelines. We build durability before chasing velocity.

Can throwing mechanics really add velocity?

Over time, yes — safely. Velocity is a byproduct of clean mechanics and strength that develops as the athlete grows, never something we force at a young arm's expense.
